#1

The 5-year note sale tailed as its yield crossed 5% for the first time since 2007

The Treasury sold $70bn of 5-year notes on Wednesday with a tail of 3.1 basis points and thin demand, as the 5-year yield crossed the 5 percent line for the first time since 2007 and the 10-year closed at a 2007 high. The rate regime sits in the top band, its capital spread across broad bond products with no dominant holder. Weak takeup at the auction confirms the repricing from the supply side, and the 7-year sale on Thursday is what tests whether buyers return at these levels.

Flash PMIs showed US business activity growing at its fastest pace in five years

S&P Global's flash composite index rose to 58.4 in September from 56.0, services output grew at its fastest pace in more than five years, and input costs rose at the fastest rate since October 2022. The reshoring trade sits in the middle band, its capital spread across infrastructure and materials products. Output this strong a week after a rate rise leaves the policy question open rather than settled, and the official inflation prints are what resolve it.

US and Iranian envoys met for three hours at the UN as Tehran restated its terms

Iran's foreign minister and two US envoys met for three hours at the UN under Qatari mediation, which President Trump called very productive, while Tehran said on Wednesday it had conveyed its conditions unchanged, including an end to the naval blockade. Geopolitical supply sits mid-board and is heavily concentrated, one broad energy product holding close to half its capital. A meeting without a change of position moves the premium without moving a barrel, and the next session is what shows whether either side has shifted.

Meta unveiled third-generation Ray-Ban glasses and an audio-only pair at Connect

Meta used its Connect keynote on Wednesday evening to unveil Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3, a camera-free audio model called Luna due to ship this fall, and a preview of its Project Phoenix mixed-reality device. The AI compute core sits in the top band and is concentrated, two broad technology products holding half its capital. A consumer device is where compute spending meets a paying user, so sell-through once shipping begins is what tests whether the hardware carries the spending.

IonQ ran real-time error decoding on one processor and will install a system at Nvidia

IonQ demonstrated a real-time quantum error decoder running on a single standard processor across simulated circuits of 408 logical qubits, and said its Superion 256 system will be installed in Nvidia's quantum research center. The quantum frontier sits mid-board and is the most concentrated narrative in the system, one index product holding nearly all its capital. A simulated result and one installation are company events, and fault-tolerant hardware at scale is what would make them a narrative one.
