Eight things the Friday session has to price

Initial jobless claims fell by 6,000 to 194,000 in Thursday's report, against the 200,000 recorded beforehand, while continuing claims rose to 1.728m against 1.720m expected. The rate regime, joint sixth on attention with the AI compute core, saw its ETFs gain modestly in price, third best of 22 narratives. A firmer labor print arriving on the day the 10-year yield posted its largest one-day fall since March 2023 leaves jobs and bonds telling different stories into next week's Fed meeting.

Iranian state television said seven tankers were damaged or set on fire in the Strait of Hormuz overnight, a claim UKMTO did not report, while the Houthis claimed strikes on Saudi targets including an Aramco facility. Geopolitical supply, ninth on attention, had ETFs that slipped in price on a day December Brent settled at $113.17, its highest since May. An unconfirmed claim lifting crude shows how little evidence passage now needs to reprice, and independent confirmation is what would turn pressure into a pattern.

The Philadelphia semiconductor index closed at its lowest since July 29, after Lam Research flagged supply constraints into 2027 and Nvidia's chief said neoclouds lack working capital, while Meta's five-year credit default swaps touched a record. The AI compute core, tied for sixth on attention, had ETFs that fell steeply in price, among the weakest four narratives. Once the question moves from demand to who pays for the buildout, a beat stops protecting the price, and spreads on the largest spenders become the measure that matters.

Newmont earned $2.20 a share on an adjusted basis on sales of $6.36bn, against the $1.95 and $6.24bn recorded beforehand, and cut 2026 all-in sustaining cost guidance to $1,520 an ounce. Hard asset flight, first on attention and in the hot band, had ETFs that fell sharply in price as December gold dropped to about $4,038. Margins that wide leave room for the metal to fall before miner cash flow does, which puts the spread between bullion and miner ETFs at the center of the reading.

Western Digital earned $4.64 a share on revenue of $4.38bn after Thursday's close, against the $4.08 and $4.14bn recorded beforehand, and guided the December quarter to $5.1bn with earnings near $5.80, yet the shares fell further in late trading. The report followed a session in which the narrative's ETFs had already lost heavily in price, before any of these figures were known. Guidance that steep from a storage supplier shows orders still running ahead of capacity, leaving the late selling as a view on how long that lasts.

Lockheed Martin earned $7.97 a share on sales of $20.71bn before Thursday's open, against the $7.52 and $20.48bn recorded beforehand, lifted 2026 free cash flow guidance to $7.8bn to $8.0bn and reported a record backlog of $292bn. The defense trade sits eighth on attention, and its ETFs edged down in price even as the shares jumped. A backlog that size turns procurement intent into dated revenue, so the narrative now hinges on delivery capacity more than on budget headlines.

Bloom Energy earned $0.94 a share on revenue of $1.24bn, against the $0.69 and $1.06bn recorded beforehand, and raised full-year 2026 revenue guidance to $4.4bn to $4.6bn, though its shares extended the day's fall in late trading. The power constraint is joint twelfth on attention, and its ETFs edged lower in price, seventh of 22 on a weak day. Fuel cells sold to data centers are paid for out of capital budgets now being questioned, so orders matter less here than how those budgets get funded.

Grayscale said on Wednesday that eligible investors can contribute the underlying token for shares in ten of its products, including its bitcoin, ether and Solana funds, with minimums from about $80,300 to $364,800. Crypto conviction, second on attention and in the hot band, saw its ETFs drop hard in price as bitcoin slid to about $81,150. Letting token owners move coins into a fund without selling first adds a route that grows assets without new buying, which makes creations a less clean read of fresh demand.
