Eight things the Monday session has to price

For session: Mon Oct 26, 2026
The board, all 22 narratives: 4 HOT, 15 WARM, 3 QUIET
Lead story: rate regime

The flash manufacturing index rose to 56.0 against 55.5 recorded beforehand, services slipped to 57.9 against 58.0, and selling prices rose at the fastest pace since August 2022. The rate regime, joint sixth on attention, had ETFs that were little changed in price, mid-table among 22 narratives. Price pressure building inside a survey that still shows growth gives the Fed less room to call its tightening finished, and Thursday's inflation data is where that reading holds or breaks.

A White House memorandum issued Thursday under Section 303 of the Defense Production Act declared petroleum production and refining essential to national defense, and Vice President Vance named a Delek refinery in Texas as a first expansion. The reshoring trade sits in the quiet band on attention, and its ETFs slipped in price on Friday, in the weaker third of narratives. Refining capacity takes years to build, so the first funded project, not the declaration, shows whether this reaches the domestic industrial base.

The University of Michigan's final October sentiment index came in at 48, up from a preliminary 46.3 and against 48.1 in September, while year-ahead and longer-run inflation expectations both edged up. Spread thinly by capital across bond ETFs, the rate regime closed the session almost flat in price. Households expecting faster inflation while holding back on large purchases pull the two halves of the Fed's mandate apart, and Wednesday's statement shows which half it weighs more.

December Brent settled at $116.72 a barrel on Friday, its highest since April 29, after Houthi attacks in Saudi Arabia, and the energy sector of the S&P 500 closed at a record. Geopolitical supply, ninth on attention, led all 22 narratives in price as its ETFs rose solidly. The premium rests on attacks rather than on lost export volumes, so a confirmed outage at a Saudi terminal is what would turn a repricing into a shortfall.

SK hynix said on Friday that Solidigm had halted its review of listing options, citing market conditions, after Korea's financial regulators said the plan fell under dual-listing rules; the market had expected a Nasdaq raise of $10bn to $15bn. The AI compute core, joint sixth on attention, had ETFs that recovered modestly in price, fifth best of 22 narratives. With a US fab still to fund, the money now comes from the parent rather than new investors, tying memory capacity to how long chip prices hold.

SLB earned $0.64 a share excluding charges on revenue of $9.45bn before Friday's open, against the $0.62 recorded beforehand, while Eni more than doubled adjusted net profit to €2.8bn and raised its 2026 buyback to €3.8bn. By capital one large sector ETF carries about a third of the narrative, and its ETFs posted the day's strongest gain after both reports were public. Service revenue follows producers' drilling budgets rather than spot crude, so SLB's own caution on the Middle East matters more here than Friday's price.

Bloomberg reported on Friday that SpaceX is negotiating with at least one large tower company for a minimum of 80,000 US sites for a national mobile network, lifting tower stocks while the three national carriers fell. The orbital economy, tenth on attention, had ETFs that gained solidly in price, third best of 22 narratives. A ground network would make Starlink a carrier rather than a satellite add-on, and the reading changes only once a signed lease, not a report of talks, puts a number on it.

American Express earned $4.68 a share on an adjusted basis on revenue of $20.06bn, against the $4.47 recorded beforehand, raised its 2026 earnings guidance and booked a $336m charge for planned job cuts, and the shares fell. The credit signal, last on attention and in the quiet band, saw its ETFs ease in price, in the weaker half of narratives. Billed business still growing while the issuer releases reserves and cuts costs makes card losses, not spending, the figure that would change the reading on this narrative.
