Eight things the Wednesday session has to price

For session: Wed Oct 28, 2026
The board, all 22 narratives: 4 HOT, 15 WARM, 3 QUIET
Lead story: rate regime

Consumer confidence rose to 91.7 in October from a revised 84.2, against 80.5 recorded beforehand, as easing gasoline prices lifted views of present and future business conditions. The rate regime, joint sixth on attention, had ETFs that were essentially unchanged in price, twentieth of 22, a day before the Fed decides. A household mood this much firmer removes demand weakness as a reason to ease, while inflation expectations still running high give the committee no reason to lean the other way.

WTI settled at $99.90 on Tuesday, down $1.86, and Brent at $113.88, after Iranian state media reported missiles aimed at Saudi Arabia's Ras Tanura refinery and later reports said a fire there was contained. Geopolitical supply, ninth on attention, had the weakest ETFs of all 22 narratives in price on the day. A strike report that lifted crude only briefly shows diplomacy setting the price for now, and confirmed damage at a Saudi export site is what would reverse that.

Sales of new single-family homes ran at an annual 676,000 in September against 649,000 recorded beforehand, a touch below August's 680,000, with the median price at $400,400 and 8.4 months of supply. The refinancing cycle sits eighteenth on attention and its ETFs slipped in price, twenty-first of 22. Volume near August's pace with supply that deep says builders are moving homes on price rather than on cheaper mortgages, which leaves their margins exposed if rates stay where they are.

Robinhood earned $0.51 a share after Tuesday's close against $0.56 recorded beforehand, on net revenue of $1.42bn, with crypto revenue down to $120m from a year earlier. Crypto conviction, second on attention, had ETFs that firmed in price, ninth of 22, before the report. Attention near the top of the board beside a broker whose crypto takings fell by more than half separates talk about the asset from trading in it, and the next monthly activity report shows whether that gap is closing.

Visa earned an adjusted $3.48 a share for its fiscal fourth quarter after Tuesday's close against $3.43 recorded beforehand, on net revenue of $12.1bn, with cross-border volume growing faster than payments overall. The productivity handoff, fifth on attention, saw its ETFs rise modestly in price, twelfth of 22. Cross-border travel spending is where the network earns its widest fees, so a slowdown there rather than in domestic cards is what would change the reading.

Seagate earned an adjusted $7.68 a share after Tuesday's close against $7.17 recorded beforehand, on revenue of $4.23bn, and guided the next quarter to $9.20 a share on about $4.8bn of revenue. The AI compute core, level with the rate regime on attention, had ETFs that rose strongly in price, fifth of 22, ahead of the report. Storage now priced as a scarce input to the buildout depends on hyperscaler orders, and the spending plans Alphabet and Microsoft give on Wednesday are the nearest read on them.

Boeing reported a core loss of $0.34 a share before Tuesday's open against a $0.21 loss recorded beforehand, on revenue of $24.2bn, with 161 commercial deliveries and the 737 still working toward a steady 47 a month. The defense trade, eighth on attention, had ETFs that barely rose in price, seventeenth of 22, as Boeing's own shares fell sharply. Defense programs carry the narrative while commercial jets carry Boeing's losses, so exposure through Boeing is tied to a production line a $745bn backlog cannot speed up.

UPS earned an adjusted $1.69 a share before Tuesday's open against $1.63 recorded beforehand, on revenue of $22.9bn, and raised full-year guidance to about $7.28 a share on $92.6bn of revenue while its adjusted operating margin narrowed. The trade-war tax, joint twelfth on attention with the power constraint, had ETFs that gained in price, eleventh of 22. Revenue growing as margin shrinks is how tariff friction shows inside a carrier, and Friday's change to Canada's tariff list adds customs work on the same lanes.
