The ISM manufacturing index rose to 55.5 in October from 54.5 on Monday, against 54.7 recorded beforehand, with production at its highest since November 2021 and prices paid easing to 75.2 from 77.9. The reshoring trade, twentieth on attention, saw its ETFs gain in price, fifth of 22. Firmer output with input costs off their peak narrows the gap the Chicago survey showed on Friday, leaving payrolls to show whether the factory gain is reaching hiring.

WTI settled at $96.46 on Monday, its largest one-day fall since July 27, after Iran's president said the supreme leader had granted the government powers to pursue talks and officials offered to ease energy transport through Hormuz. Geopolitical supply, seventh on attention, had ETFs that fell further in price than any other narrative. Tehran ties formal talks to the US lifting its blockade and Trump has threatened strikes after the midterms, so the price now rests on a negotiating position rather than any reopening.

Apple earned $2.10 a share for its September quarter after Monday's close against $1.98 recorded beforehand, on revenue of $114.5bn, but guided its December-quarter gross margin lower and said memory costs are expected to keep climbing into next year. The productivity handoff, first on attention, had ETFs that fell sharply in price before the result, twentieth of 22. A beat paired with a lower margin guide moves the question from demand to component cost, so memory contract prices now carry more of the margin story than iPhone volumes do.

Palantir earned an adjusted $0.44 a share after Monday's close against $0.33 recorded beforehand, on revenue of $2.313bn, as US commercial sales passed US government sales for the first time. By capital, two cybersecurity and software ETFs carry a little over half of the narrative, and its ETFs had already lost ground in price before the result. With companies now the larger customer, the reading turns from Washington's contract timing to whether corporate AI budgets hold at renewal.

Marvell agreed on Monday to buy Lumentum for 4.5 Marvell shares each, valuing the optical maker at $115bn including debt; Marvell fell to $171.41 and Lumentum closed at $684.40, below the offer's value. Fifth on attention, the AI compute core saw its ETFs lose heavily in price, ahead of only one other narrative. Lumentum trading under the offer's value is a gap priced as risk on completion or on Marvell's own shares, and a competition review of the optical combination would widen or narrow it.

Oracle said on Monday it would sell $10bn of new common stock and $10bn of senior notes to fund its AI buildout, while the cost of insuring its debt for five years stood at 292 basis points. By capital, broad technology ETFs carry most of the compute core, and those ETFs were among the weakest in price on the day. Raising equity beside debt splits the cost between shareholders and lenders, so the new notes' pricing against Oracle's existing bonds shows how far credit keeps funding the buildout.

Diamondback Energy earned an adjusted $5.86 a share after Monday's close against $4.92 recorded beforehand, on oil output of 525,000 barrels a day, and raised its base dividend to $1.18 a quarter. By capital, one broad energy sector ETF carries about a third of geopolitical supply, whose ETFs took the session's steepest price fall before the result landed. The quarter was earned before Monday's fall in crude, so the fourth-quarter plan of $1bn to $1.05bn in spending is what is exposed if oil holds nearer Monday's settlement than October's.

Vertex Pharmaceuticals earned $4.76 a share on a non-GAAP basis after Monday's close against $4.36 recorded beforehand, on revenue of $3.44bn, and raised full-year revenue guidance to $13.15bn to $13.25bn. Biology, seventeenth of 22 on attention, closed a session in which its ETFs slipped in price, fifteenth. Growth leans on patients moving within Vertex's own cystic fibrosis drugs, with Alyftrek at $705.8m, while the newer Casgevy and Journavx still sum to under $160m a quarter.
