Eight things the Friday session has to price

For session: Fri Oct 30, 2026
The board, all 22 narratives: 4 HOT, 15 WARM, 3 QUIET
Lead story: rate regime

Real GDP grew at an annualized rate of 3.4 in the third quarter on Thursday's advance estimate, above the 3.2 recorded beforehand, while September PCE prices rose in line with forecasts. The rate regime, fourth on attention, had ETFs that gained slightly in price, tenth of 22, as the 10-year yield eased. Stronger growth with inflation still above target gives Wednesday's two votes for a hike more to point to, which raises the stakes on the next inflation print.

Alphabet's Class A shares fell to $283.82 on Thursday, their worst day since the 2004 listing, while ServiceNow and Marvell also fell sharply and the Nasdaq led the indexes lower. The productivity handoff, first on attention, had the weakest ETFs of any narrative in price on the day. A selloff led by the largest spenders on compute questions the return on that spending before the capacity itself, so capital plans in the coming reports are what would carry it into the narrative's ETFs.

WTI settled at $102.00 and Brent at $114.88 on Thursday after Vice President Vance sent a letter to the head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, which Tehran confirmed receiving on Friday, though an Iranian official dismissed a new Qatari draft deal. Geopolitical supply, seventh on attention, saw its ETFs firm slightly in price, eighth of 22. Diplomacy and a reported post-election strike plan now run on the same calendar, so the premium in crude rests on which one reaches Tehran's decision first.

Coinbase earned $2.51 a share after Thursday's close against a $0.18 loss recorded beforehand, on revenue of $1.22bn and net income of $719m, with adjusted EBITDA of $333m. Crypto conviction, second on attention, had ETFs that fell in price, seventeenth of 22, as bitcoin slid toward $78,500. Net income at more than twice adjusted EBITDA means much of the profit came from outside operations, so transaction revenue of about $165m so far this quarter is the figure that tracks trading activity.

Intel earned $0.52 a share on a non-GAAP basis after Thursday's close against $0.28 recorded beforehand, with data center and AI revenue at $7.3bn, and guided fourth-quarter revenue to $15bn to $16bn. The AI compute core, fifth on attention, had ETFs that fell in price, nineteenth of 22, before the report. Data center demand supports the narrative while the lower guide rests on PC weakness and foundry losses, so the result reaches this narrative only through the first of those.

Amazon earned $1.89 a share after Thursday's close against $2.01 recorded beforehand, on net sales of $201.9bn, with AWS sales of $46.0bn and quarterly purchases of property and equipment of $77.3bn. By capital the AI compute core sits mostly in two broad technology ETFs, and their decline in price on the day came before this report. A full-year spending plan held near $220bn keeps the order flow to chip and server makers where it was, which matters more here than the gap on earnings.

Exxon Mobil earned an adjusted $4.23 a share before Friday's open against $3.96 recorded beforehand and set a $20bn buyback for 2027, while Chevron earned an adjusted $5.28 against $4.78, with record US refinery throughput. Geopolitical supply, seventh on attention, had ETFs that firmed slightly in price on Thursday, eighth of 22, ahead of both reports. Both drew the gain from refining while production slipped at Chevron, so the result reaches this narrative through product margins that hold only as long as the disruption to supply does.

Merck earned $2.49 a share on a non-GAAP basis before Thursday's open against $2.09 recorded beforehand, on sales of $18.1bn with Keytruda at $8.6bn, and raised its full-year earnings guidance. The biology trade, seventeenth on attention, had ETFs that rose in price, third of 22, on a day Eli Lilly closed at a record. Keytruda still carries close to half of sales, so the pace at which its newer injectable form holds that franchise shapes how much this result means for large pharmaceutical ETFs.
