Pre-Market Narrative Wire

Eight things the Wednesday session has to price

For session: Wed Nov 4, 2026
The board, all 22 narratives: 4 HOT, 15 WARM, 3 QUIET
Lead story: rate regime

Job openings rose by 333,000 to 7.52m in September, a four-month high, against 7.10m recorded beforehand, with quits up to 3.36m and layoffs down to 1.64m. The rate regime, fourth on attention, saw its ETFs edge slightly lower in price on Tuesday. More openings beside more quits describe a firmer labor market than September payrolls did, so a soft October report on Friday would now be arguing against two other measures rather than confirming them.

Factory orders rose in September by more than three times the gain recorded beforehand, their largest increase in five months. The reshoring trade, twentieth on attention, had ETFs that slipped in price, nineteenth of 22. Two firm factory readings in two days, after Monday's ISM output, narrow the doubt over demand, which leaves input costs rather than orders as the part of the story still open.

US forces carried out what officials called defensive strikes on Iran's Qeshm Island late Monday, aimed at its ability to attack Hormuz shipping, after the Revolutionary Guard fired at a US aircraft. Its ETFs fell in price, among the three weakest narratives, while attention keeps geopolitical supply seventh. Tehran says the strait could reopen within two days of the blockade lifting, so a limited strike leaves that offer standing, and a second exchange of fire would turn an incident into a pattern.

AMD earned $2.09 a share on a non-GAAP basis after Tuesday's close against $1.68 recorded beforehand, on record revenue of $13.4bn with data center sales of $8.5bn, and guided to about $17bn for the fourth quarter. The AI compute core, fifth on attention, had ETFs among the four strongest in price before the result landed. With the guide well above the quarter just reported, the open question is delivery rather than demand, and memory and packaging supply now bound the reading more than orders do.

Oracle priced its offerings on Tuesday, selling 86.2m shares at $116 and $10bn of senior notes maturing from 2029 to 2046, for about $19.9bn in net proceeds. By capital, two broad technology ETFs hold more than a third of the compute core, and those ETFs gained in price on the day. With the raise priced, the open part is the secondary market, where the new notes trading against Oracle's existing bonds after Wednesday's close shows whether lenders' appetite holds beyond the order book.

Pfizer earned an adjusted $0.87 a share on Tuesday against $0.73 in market surveys, on revenue of $16.6bn, and raised full-year guidance to $62.0bn to $64.0bn in revenue and $2.95 to $3.05 in adjusted earnings. The biology trade sits seventeenth on attention, and its ETFs finished mid-table in price while Pfizer's own shares fell. A raised outlook met by a lower share price says the market is weighing the next product cycle over this quarter, which leaves the pipeline, not the guide, as what would move attention.

Arista Networks reported revenue of $3.66bn after Tuesday's close against $3.33bn in market surveys and its own $3.3bn forecast, with non-GAAP earnings of $1.20 a share, and guided to $3.9bn to $4.0bn for the fourth quarter. The result followed a session of gains in price for compute core ETFs, where by capital the chip-focused ETFs sit behind the two broad technology ones. Networking revenue growing this fast means spending goes into connecting clusters as well as filling them, a share that holds up only while cluster sizes keep growing.

The CFTC said on Tuesday that perpetual futures on individual stocks, contracts with no expiry long traded offshore, may trade on registered US exchanges under joint oversight with the SEC, with no launch date. Leveraged ETFs carry most of pure narrative flow by capital, and they gained in price on the day; the narrative sits eleventh on attention. A listed perpetual competes with daily leveraged ETFs for short-horizon exposure, so its margin and funding terms, once published, decide whether it draws on that capital or adds to it.
